Back-to-School Tips for Preschool Parents

The first day of school is always a big moment — full of excitement, butterflies, and sometimes a few tears (and not just from the little ones!). Whether it’s your child’s very first time in preschool or they’re returning to a familiar classroom, preparing for the year ahead can help make the transition smoother for everyone.

Here are some of our favorite tips to get your family ready for a great year:

Start Routines Early
Begin easing into the school schedule a week or two before the first day. Set earlier bedtimes, morning routines, and talk about what to expect during the day. Consistency helps reduce stress for both children and parents.

Talk About What to Expect
Young children feel more confident when they know what’s coming. Talk about school in a positive way — the fun they’ll have, the friends they’ll make, and the loving teachers who will be there to help.

Label Everything
From backpacks to water bottles and extra clothes, labeling items helps keep things organized and ensures your child’s belongings make it back home.

Keep Goodbyes Short & Sweet
It’s natural for drop-off to be emotional, especially in the first few weeks. A consistent, calm goodbye routine — like a hug, a smile, and a reminder that you’ll be back later — helps your child feel secure.

Trust the Process
It can take a little time for children to settle in. Some may jump right in, others may need a few extra days (or weeks). At Towne Lake Academy, we’re here to walk alongside you and your child every step of the way.

We’re Here for You
As we begin our 31st school year — and our 10th year as owners — we’re honored to be part of your child’s early education journey. We can’t wait to see their smiling faces, curious minds, and big hearts walk through our doors.

Here’s to a fantastic year at TLA!
